 New Vista 201: New Parent Orientation

September 11, 6:00 p.m.
Hi Seniors (and Parents/Guardians of Seniors) --

• This event is for students that plan to attend college next year, (or any time in the future). You will learn everything you need to know to apply to college, including navigating the Common Application, requesting letters of recommendation and transcripts, using Naviance, writing essays, taking a gap year, and much more. The college application process varies at all high schools, so it is very important for students to understand this process AT NEW VISTA. This is our main way to deliver this important information.
• Senior College Planning Night

Sept. 24: Paying for College and FAFSA Night:

• This special event for seniors and parents will help you gain a greater understanding of how to pay for college. Topics will include financial aid, the FAFSA, the CSS Profile, tips for saving money, scholarship searching, and more. 
• Paying for College Night

This is an incredible week where colleges from all over the country choose to come to New Vista to meet with our students. Grades 9-12 are encouraged to meet with these representatives. They can register on Naviance.

5:30 - 7:30 pm at Monarch High School.  Register at StriveFair.com, then show your barcode to college reps who will scan it to send you more information about their school.

All residents of Colorado who are applying for undergraduate programs at all state public and some private Colorado colleges and universities are eligible to submit their admission applications for free on Oct. 7-9, 2025. Undergraduate programs include undergraduate level certificates, associate degrees, and bachelor degrees.  If the college/university has additional application documents required as part of the application process (for example, high school transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc.) they can be submitted before or after Oct. 7-9. • This is an optional test that is great practice for the SAT, which Juniors will take this Spring. The test is primarily given to 11th graders, though 10th graders are welcome to take it for practice. 9th graders can take it if there are openings, but we don't recommend it as they have not yet learned much of the material tested. The main difference between the PSAT 10 (which current Juniors took last spring) and the PSAT/NMSQT is that the PSAT/NMSQT is used to qualify 11th grade students for the National Merit Scholarship Program. • WHEN: October 28 from 7:45 am-noon
• REGISTRATION COST:  $30. (Fee waivers are available for eligible families) Limited space available. REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR THIS YEAR.
• THERE ARE NO REFUNDS!
• HOW TO REGISTER:  Students complete THIS FORM. AND pay on Revtrak. You are not registered until both of these steps are complete.

• Junior year is the perfect time to begin creating a plan for life after high school. If your plan may include college, this event is for you! This informative and interactive event will help students prepare for the college search, as well as college admissions and application processes. Topics will include: Understanding New Vista and college, What you should be doing to prepare for college now, Learning the nuts and bolts of college admissions, Using Naviance, and Lots of resources. This is our main way to deliver this important information to students and families, so we HIGHLY encourage attendance.

• On average, college tuition tends to increase about 8% per year. And 8% inflation rate means that the cost of college doubles about every nine years. (Finaid.org) Planning for these expenses has become essential. Some families have children attending college next year and others have years to plan, but the fears of tackling these monumental and rising costs are the same. The College Funding Coach is here to help families figure out HOW to pay for it and still retire one day. Mark DeBord, from The College Funding Coach, is on a mission to help families better understand the complex strategies for paying for college and making higher education more affordable. This event is helpful to parents of children Pre-k through 12th grade.
