Tasandre Hendrickson TEACHER AND ADVISOR

I love New Vista’s alternative approach to high school, which is so unique.  The fact that it is a small school, that we get to know the students, that the students feel respected and reach our high expectations are all top reasons I choose to work at New Vista. The block scheduling challenges me as a math teacher to engage the students in complex problem-solving tasks to grasp a concept, rather than drill and practice.  Also, the collaborative work the staff does is invaluable to me as an educator.

National Board Certified Teacher, 2012

I have taken several classes and studies to further my understanding of mathematics education and the dynamics of the classroom.  Some highlighted courses are:

Group Study: Science & Math Education, Center for Learning and Teaching in the West, UNC and CSU, June 2003, Fall 2003, Spring 2004
Equity in Mathematics Education Leadership Institute, Adams State College, October 2001, February 2002, June 2002
Advanced Statistics Seminar, CU Boulder, Summer 2002
Developing Mentoring Capacity for Math Teacher Education, CU Boulder, Fall 1999
Integrating Technology into the Mathematics Classroom, Adams State College, Summer 1999

I have worked over the years to collaboratively create New Vista’s unique mathematics curriculum, which balances problem-solving with practice and rigor.
